Tenerife is one of the group of islands known as the Canary Islands. Tenerife enjoys an unusual climate in that the north of Tenerife is green and gets lots of rain so therefore is abundant with trees, flowers and a wondrous array of plants and wildlife. The south of Tenerife however is completely the opposite with almost a desert like appearance in the non populated areas.

The year round excellent weather in the south of the Island is Tenerife’s crowning glory, and a testament to the success of Tenerife as a holiday destination. South Tenerife has its moments however and it can rain in downpours of amazing tenacity during early winter. However after the rain has had its day there are approximately 350 days a year of pure sunshine. Eternal springtime is a good analogy. Apparently the weather master is the still active volcano Mount Teide which, so we are told, holds the rain clouds to the North of Tenerife and only allows them down to the south of the island a couple of time a year.

There are super white sand beaches in many parts of Tenerife along with the natural black sand which originates from the volcanoes on the island. The resorts of Las Americas and Los Cristianos enjoy beautiful stretches of white and yellow sand, upon which you will find many areas to relax, have a cooling drink or just while away the hours sleeping on a sun bed. Watch those sunrays though as the sun in Tenerife is quite fierce. Pack plenty of high factor and sun block for the kiddies.

Notably the southern part of Tenerife is more popular with tourists because of its almost year round sunshine and even temperatures. However, evenings can be quite cool during the winter months.
